How to Print Addresses on Envelopes
By the EnvelopePrinting.net team · Updated August 2026
Getting an address onto an envelope takes seconds once you know where everything goes. Here's the fastest way, plus the Word method and USPS formatting rules.
Where the address goes on an envelope
Three spots matter when you print address on envelope stock: the return address in the top-left corner, the delivery address in the center, and the stamp in the top-right. The delivery address should sit slightly below the middle of the envelope.
How to print an address on an envelope (fastest)
The quickest method is the free address printing tool— type your addresses, pick a size, and print.
- Enter the return address in the top box.
- Enter the delivery address in the second box.
- Choose the envelope size that matches your stock.
- Load the envelope into the manual feed tray, flap side down.
- Press Print and check the placement.
How to print the address on an envelope in Word
In Microsoft Word, envelope address printing is built into the Mailings tab.
- Open Word and go to Mailings → Envelopes.
- Type the delivery address and, optionally, a return address.
- Click Options and set the envelope size.
- Load the envelope in the manual tray, then click Print.
Address formatting rules
- Use three lines: name, street address, then city + state + ZIP.
- Use the two-letter state abbreviation.
- Keep the ZIP code on the same line as the city and state.
- Leave the bottom-right area clear for postal barcodes.
